About the Tour
The historic town of St Emilion is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the famous Merlots of Bordeaux. The city was mainly built in the 13th century and constructed from sandstone blocks mined under St Emilion. There are 200km of tunnels under the ancient city. Many of these underground tunnels are nowadays used as wine maturation cellars. Join us on this spectacular tour, try some wine and take a walk through – and even under – this famous of Bordeaux regions.
Quite spectacular also is St Emilion's Cathedral, which was constructed between the 13th and 15th century out of a single piece of rock. The tourist office of St Emilion offers English speaking guided tours to visit and discover the catacombs.
This all-day-tour typically starts at 9am with the visit to a château in the appellation of St Emilion, that is usually not open to the public and a wine tasting in the City of St Emilion. This is followed by a lunch in one of St Emilion’s great restaurants, a walking tour of the historic town, the cathedral, and shopping opportunities for those who are lured by the selection of very beautiful and diverse shops of St Emilion.
The tour rate includes château admissions, guided wine tastings, tour fees, a set-menu lunch and – as do all our tours - an English speaking wine buff and air-conditioned chauffeuring in a minibus of maximum 8 persons. We offer this tour on Mondays & Fridays and on special request on Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday.
